Title: Prophet Muhammad: The First Capitalist? including Q&A Part 2

This event took place at King College (London) and organised by The Islamic Finance and Ethics Society (IFES).

The event will touch upon themes like; the traditional Islamic ethics of business, entrepreneurship and Islamic market reform. These focuses will be further illustrated with examples from the Prophet Muhammad (SAW); in particular the Prophet’s economic and market perspective.

The event aimed to provide a holistic summary of the relationship between early Islam and capitalism and commerce.

Background of the Speaker:

Dr. Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf was born and raised in London. After memorising the Quran at 15 he continued his studies and obtained a BA in Islamic Studies from the University of Johannesburg, followed by an MA from SOAS.

To date, he has written the well-received Fiqh al-Imam, a guide to the Ḥanafī position on disputed matters of prayer, and is the translator of Hasan Basri’s Prayers for Forgiveness, Abu
Hanifa’s Al-Fiqh al-Akbar, Provisions for the Seekers, Salat & Salam: In Praise of Allah’s Most Beloved, co-authored Reflections of Pearls, and has edited Imam Ghazali’s Beginning of Guidance (Bidayat al-Hidaya) and Shaykh ‘Abdullah Gangohi’s commentary Ikmal al-Shiyam on ibn ‘Ata’illah al-Iskandari’s Hikam.
