To provide a survey understanding of Islamic History. For most Muslim history of Islam starts with the seerah, ends with the death of Uthman. They are then told we had some major contributions and some sort of Golden age in Spain. How we got to Spain? what happened in between or after? Was Islam in Europe? Where does Islamic civilization fit in the Renaissance? In the Nationalization of Europe? In the World Wars? Why are there such things as Muslim countries today? Why is Indonesia the largest Muslim country? When does Islam come to America? Who are the major groups in Muslim America? All these questions and more are the goal of the seminar. We will not go over every Muslim ruler or group and their roles, but will try to survey the major categorical dynasties in the narrative of the “Islamic Civilization.”
