Muslims don't know that sacrificing an animal on Eid al-Ad'ha is NOT an obligation and would be surprised to learn that major companions of the Beloved ﷺ like Abu Bakr RA, Omar RA, Ibn Masud RA, Ibn Abbas RA, Bilal ibn Rabah RA, and others stopped sacrificing animals on this day.
