Lives of The Khulafaa (42): Abu Ubaidah Amer-Ibn-Al-Jarrah(Ashara Mubashara) - Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi

In this episode of Lives of The Khulafaa, Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi covers the life of Abu Ubaidah Amer-Ibn-Al-Jarrah, one of ten who was promised Paradise(Ashara Mubashara). He was originally from the furthest tribe from the Banu Haashim, and that is the tribe of Banu Harith Ibn-Fihr. His actual name is Amer Ibn Abdillah-Ibn-Al-Jarrah, interestingly enough. he is never called by that name. The main reason for one to skip their father’s name, is that the grandfather could be very famous, therefore the grandson just ascribes to his name. In this particular case, we are unsure of the reason behind.

Abu Ubaidah Amer-Ibn-Al-Jarrah was indeed part of the first group of converts that converted in the hands of the Prophet(S), he was not of those who converted in the hands of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq . Some sources state that he converted the next day, others say within 2-3 days. All of the ten promised Paradise, they are participated in each and every expedition, and Abu Ubaidah is no exception. One of the incidents narrated about him brings around some controversy.
