Celebrating wedding anniversaries is a relatively recent cultural practice that began in Western societies. Clearly, our Prophet (saw) and the early generations never celebrated anniversaries.
Does this mean, therefore, that celebrating personal anniversaries & birthdays is considered imitating non-Muslims and hence prohibited? Or: if a husband buys roses and takes his wife out for a romantic dinner on their wedding anniversary, would this be classified as haram or a bid'ah in the religion of Islam?
In this video clip Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi sheds some light on this topic.
