About Whitethread Institute:
Whitethread Institute has recently been founded with the primary intention of catering for Muslim scholars, the ‘alims and ‘alimas who are the religious leaders of our community. Our estimate is that we have at least 500 ‘alims and ‘alimas just around the London area. There are many more who graduate each year from seminaries around the United Kingdom and abroad.
Many scholars find themselves doing involuntary bukhl (miserliness) with their knowledge because they have not yet unlocked their full potential. After several years of study they could possess vast amounts of knowledge. However, in the constantly changing world it is important to continue and update this knowledge, develop new experiences and learn better ways to impart and apply their wisdom to the masses.
Alhamdulillah, there are many madrasas and seminaries, both local, national and international, but not many in the UK that provide post-graduate courses and advanced Islamic learning. For our scholars to keep abreast of contemporary challenges and remain relevant, a number of post-graduate enhancement courses are necessary. Whitethread Institute has been founded with this purpose in mind.
Our aim is that every scholar should become relevant. Every scholar should maximise his or her potential. Every scholar should be able to give something back to the community. We want to help ‘ulama discover their calling, whether it be for leading a community, youth work, providing adult education, teaching the next generation of leaders, or furthering Islamic academic studies.
For this, we have launched a number of important post-graduate courses for the 2017–18 academic year. Here are the current course offerings:
· Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program (one year)
http://whitethreadinstitute.org/advanced-islamic-jurisprudence-program/
· Specialisation in Fiqh and Ifta’ Program (two years)
http://whitethreadinstitute.org/ifta-specialisation-program/
· Advanced Islamic Theology Program (one year) http://whitethreadinstitute.org/advanced-islamic-theology-program/
The Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program and the Advanced Islamic Theology Program are both one-year post-graduate diploma courses that are also available online. The more advanced Specialisation in Fiqh and Ifta’ Program is a rigorous two-year course for which only a dozen or so places are available, and which is only available to onsite students this year.
Many applicants may want to advance their knowledge in jurisprudence but not necessarily want to commit to the rigours of training to be a mufti. The Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program is appropriate for this. The Advanced Islamic Theology Program can be taken alongside the Advanced Islamic Jurisprudence Program in the same year or separately over two years. The two courses taken together provide excellent training for imams, religious teachers and chaplains.
Other than the above, we aim to deliver a series of shorter courses throughout the year for ‘ulama’, along with some courses for the general community.
