If the definition of being a Muslim was to merely believe in Allah then Iblis (Satan) would also be a Muslim because he too believes in Allah.
However, Allah calls Iblis a Kafir in the Qur'an from this we learn that simply believing in Allah does not make a person a Muslim.
What minimum obligations of Islam does one need to fulfill in order to be considered a Muslim and how did the companions of the Messenger (peace be upon him) define someone to be a Muslim?
Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi as goes into an interesting tangent of fiqh and theology that occurred during the time of the noble companion Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and learn how later scholars extrapolated from these incidences to build the foundations of theology for Muslims.
